BoxyCharm January: Boxy and Chill

This month’s theme from BoxyCharm was “Boxy and Chill” so it was my impression that the items in the box would be for a relaxing day or easy to use products, and for the most part I agree.  I received a few items that are very new to me, and I also received an item already in my collection.  Let’s take a peek at my box variation, shall we?

First up we have the Briogeo Roscaro Milk Reparative Leave-In Conditioning Spray.  I normally don’t use a leave-in style spray because my hair is super fine, but I was happily surprised with this.  It smells heavenly, my hair was not frizzy after blow drying, and after straightening I had a great hair day.  Due to my hair being so fine, I tend to get oily but I was still able to keep my normal washing schedule.  I highly recommend this product if you’re looking for a multi-purpose spray that won’t weigh down your hair, but gives you heat protection and makes your hair look fantastic.

Next up we have an eyeshadow palette that I already had in my arsenal.  The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Highlighting Eyeshadow Palette Vol. III, which, from other reviews I have read, was not a big hit.  However, given the nature of the palette, I love this.  The shadows are buttery and super metallic.  They are best applied with your finger.  I am pale enough to create an eye look using these shadows alone, but I typically use this palette in a supplemental way.  The shadows will crease and fade if you do not use an eyeshadow base or primer.  These shadows look amazing on your inner corner, under your brow, or on your lid for a halo effect.  I can see why others would be disappointed in this palette, but I do enjoy it.  You get a great variety of highlighting shades and some beautiful golds to add to the versatility if using this in a supplemental way.

My look at the beginning of the work day using the products from my BoxyCharm.

A new to me brand was the Billion Dollar Brows Universal Brow Pencil.  I have seen a few of their products at my local Kohl’s, but I’ve never tried anything from them.  This was a typical retractable style pencil with a spoolie on the other end.  It says its self-sharpening but once I used it I have yet to get that super fine point back.  This shade was not quite deep enough for me, but it did blend nicely and you can see that my brows do appear filled in.  The pencil is super creamy, so I would totally be willing to try this pencil in a darker shade.  Wear time was great, and removal was easy.

The weirdest product, in my opinion, this month was the Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade “Havana Nights.”  The shade choice is what I found odd; it’s January and this color red feels more of a shade I would wear in the fall.  I have not used their liquid lipsticks previously so I was excited to try this.  The formula is very nice.  It was easy to apply, but it did take some time to dry down.  I have oily skin so I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, but I did have transferring.  I did not have any feathering or wandering, and even though I had some transfer it did not affect how the lipstick appeared on my lips.  I was very pleased with how my lips looked at the end of the day, and the formula was very comfortable.  There was minimal staining upon removal, but that went away after using a lip scrub.  Not my favorite liquid lipstick formula, but if you’re looking for a comfortable formula to try this would be a great option.

The Ofra lipstick after 8 hours of wear.  Minimal fading, no feathering.

The last item in my box was the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Face Mask.  These masks contain rice germ oil, vitamin E, green tea, and algae.  Because of my skin type, I did not try these sheet masks.  I am not a fan of anything luminous on my face because it makes me think I am more oily than usual.  From reading the packaging, if you have dry to normal skin I feel like you would love these sheet masks.

Overall, I was neither wowed or disappointed with this box.  For the value of the products versus what I paid for it I am not mad, but I do feel that my previous boxes have been better.  Did you receive BoxyCharm this month?  What products did you receive?

Total value of this box variation was $110.

If you are not familiar with BoxyCharm, it is a monthly subscription box service.  For $21 per month, you will receive 4 – 5 full sized products valued at a minimum of $100.  You have access to tutorials for the products you receive, and you earn Charms for reviewing your products.  Charms can be redeemed to purchase items listed in their Charm Room.
